My Family and Other Animals (Gerald Durrell) 1956
This is a well written memoir that in some ways reminds me of Cheaper By the Dozen. During the 1950s the author was the youngest of four children when his mother moved them to the island of Corfu off the coast of Greece. The book has several funny stories; however, there are some slow spots where the author gives more detail about the animals on the island than I am interested in knowing. This detail is understandable since the author is a well known naturalist. Durrell does a great job of relating the "sense of wonder" when learning about different animals. Overall, this entertaining story is quite enjoyable. Rating: A-.
