The Mezzanine (Nicholson Baker) 1987
The Mezzanine is the observations of an office worker of some of the small things in his life such as shoelaces, hot-air hand dryers, icecube trays, and escalators. Some of the detailed footnotes are amusing, and Baker's writing style is top-notch. However, I kept reading the book thinking that it will get funnier, but it never did. There are amusing and witty observations in this book, but it wasn't enough for me. Rating: C.
