The Stars My Destination (Alfred Bester) 1956
This cult science fiction classic holds up well even though it was written almost 50 years ago. The protagonist, Gully Foyle, after being marooned in space for 170 days is obsessed with revenge against the crew of the vessel that left him for dead. Bester said he based this story on another tale of vengeance, The Count of Monte Cristo. As with most older science fiction there are some things in this book that seem outdated now. But, the action-packed story still keeps you on the edge of your seat. This was #11 on SFX columnist David Langford's Top 20 List for Best Sci-Fi and Fantasy. Rating: A-.
