Motherless Brooklyn (Jonathan Lethem) 1999
An amateur detective with Tourette's syndrome narrates this fast-paced story. The main character's verbal outbursts and tics make him an unusual protagonist to say the least. Lethem turns the conventional hard-boiled detective genre on its ear. Great fun! Rating: A-.
