The Man With the Getaway Face (Richard Stark) (1963)
This is the second book in the "Parker" series by Richard Stark (aka Donald Westlake). The first book in the series is Payback (originally titled The Hunter). I haven't been able to find a copy of the first book (Payback) even though the Mel Gibson movie based on the book did well a few years back.

"The Man ..." was a gritty and entertaining read. Parker is a certified tough guy that plans and pulls off robberies. Although the Parker character is ruthless and amoral, it's interesting to see him plan his next job and how he deals with any surprises. The writing is lean and crisp. Parker does not kill anyone needlessly since he wants to avoid complications, but when needed he will perform the task in a workman-like manner.
